Wildlife Studios was fortunate enough to be a part of Tech Week, promoted by the students of Fundação Getúlio Vargas(FGV) University in São Paulo, Brazil. Held from August 15th to 19th. The aim of Tech Week is to provide FGVTech members (the student guild on technology) and other FGV-SP students contact with big names in the technology, investment, entrepreneurship and innovation sector, with participants including Amazon Cloud, Google and XP Investments.
Co-founder and CTO, Mike Mac-Vicar spoke to a select group of students, sharing details about himself and Wildlife, before moving on to discuss soft skills, people and conflict management, blockchain, investment in technology and big data.
This was broken down into five tech trends currently in gaming, looking at their successes, their failures, and where they may be heading in the future. The five topics were the following:
- AI – How they will drive changes in the production of games
- Metaverse – Remove the hype; how it could create new markets
- Distribution – Deep changes in how distribution happens
- Crypto
- VR – is it dead again?
Mike also took the time to discuss Wildlife’s current strategy, focusing on our mission statement to ‘Free the Creators’ through our independent studio initiative, with our most recently established studio, Moon Tavern, announced back in June.
The presentation lasted just over an hour, with students invited to take part in a Q&A session with questions focused on what drives game creation, how a game title can stand time and future trends in the gaming industry. The seminar ended up going longer than expected as students were engaged with Mike and had so many thought-provoking questions!
Events such as Tech Week are a crucial part of the pipeline between Universities and Tech & Gaming companies; engaging opportunities, improving the retention rate of future applicants and bringing new knowledge and skills.
